More and more people are starting to blog nowadays. If you are new to blogging, the most pertinent thing is to understand the difference between a blog and a static website. A static website is one written in a computer language such as HTML or javascript. It contains pages relevant to what a website is about. A blog also contains pages about a certain topic but the main difference is that a static website is generally unchanged unless updates need to be made to the content or if the webmaster decides to change the design of the website whereas a blog is dynamic in its contents. A blog’s content is updated regularly as often as the blogger desires (it can be several times a day). That’s what makes a blog interesting, and that’s why search engines in their quest to bring relevant and fresh content to searchers favor listing blogs.

So a blog is an ongoing updated series of content about a particular topic. Many people blog just for the fun of it by keeping an online diary of their activities regularly. But if you are intending to make your blog profitable, it takes a lot more skill. What are some of the skills needed for a profitable blog?

Firstly, there is the skill of finding a profitable niche. A niche is a topic people are interested in and therefore would draw readers to the blog. Many internet marketers advocate choosing a niche based on your likes, interests, hobbies and experience. But that would be too restrictive. If your aim is to make money with your blog, then it follows that you need to blog about what people are interested in and not necessarily what you may be interested in personally. Two sources to find niches people are interested in are Google Hot Trends and Wordtracker. Google Hot Trends gives you an hour-by-hour listing about what topics receive the most searches in Google. Go through this list and find any you may want to blog about. Once you identify one, insert the main keyword of this niche into Wordtracker. Wordtracker gives you a daily search count on a particular keyword and a list of related keywords. A good rule of thumb is that if a keyword gets above 100 searches in Wordtracker, it is a profitable niche. So if you find a niche topic in both Google Hot Trends and Wordtracker to blog about, you’ve got a potential money maker.

Secondly, there’s the skill of getting your blog in front of as many people as possible. This is also called traffic generation. For this, the important thing to do is find people interested in the topic of your niche. Visit forums related to the topic and become a participator. You will be able to add your blog URL to your signature file and when people want to find out more about your topic, they will click on your URL and be brought to your blog. Another important thing to do is introduce your blog to others by bookmarking it in social bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious, Furl etc. If your blog topic is a popular one according to Google Hot Trends, chances are there would be many other people interested to read whatever is in your blog.

The final thing that is needed is the means to monetize your blog. This can be done through on-topic advertisement services like Adsense and Chitika or in-text advertisement services like Kontera. Once your blog has generated a large enough readership over time, you can further monetize it by selling advertisement space.

Making your blog profitable is a challenging venture. If you like blogging, making money from it would be an added bonus.

When you start out on the Internet with a small business you will hear a lot of talk about social networking. You will hear names like Facebook, Bebo, or MySpace and you might wonder what the buzz is about.

Social networking has become the way that many people use to build a business or just to meet with friends, family and colleagues.

Social networks are built around the concept that you will have people that you want to keep in touch with or get involved with again. Usually they start out by asking you to ask your own contacts to join you at a particular site. From this place you can expand and look for other people to join your network.

Most social networks see friends in a very broad way. These can be people you know, people who look interesting or people who live in our regional area. You can also meet people from all over the world. You can usually find people who have the same interests as you do or who are the same age. This all depends on the site and what you want to do.

How To Get Started

When you first go to Facebook or other sites you may feel overwhelmed by the amount of information that is not present. You can do a Google search for “how to get started on Facebook” and you will find several blogs that will help you get the most out of your experience.

Many people start by either inviting their friends or colleagues or by joining groups. Most social networking websites have communities where you can find people who are already in a group who may be interesting to you.

Groups can help you find people like you who are interested in the same things and they can also give you more information on particular topics. The one thing about social networking that is fun is that is very social so you can get overwhelmed by the information you find.

Creating Your Profile

One of the first things you will do is create a profile where you tell people about you and what you are interested in. You can keep your profile public or make it private so that only those people who are in your network can see it. You can customize your page with different themes or ideas that are totally about you.

Some sites will ask you for books you like or music and may even allow you to create videos or playlists.

Before you get started you might want to think about the type of network you want. As an example, if you are teacher you might want to join an educational social network. If you are into sports or reading you will also find them for these hobbies.

Explore several networks before you decide what ones you like. You will probably find many different types of networks in the same category but they may not all be the type of places you want to go. Above all else, make sure that you have fun with your network.

Also, important to remember is that, social networking is a great way to get traffic to your website. With the right tactics, you set up and use these different Social Media sites to your advantage to get lots of traffic to your sites fast.

The name of the game with Internet Marketing is productivity. Productivity means reaching the greatest number of targeted prospects with the least effort and expense to generate the most sales.

The key to productivity is leverage: expanding your marketing activity with resources and systems that run without your direct effort or excessive involvement.

Developing a Link Partner strategy is one recommended way to leverage your efforts and increase your productivity, although there are numerous additional ways to apply leverage to your Internet business efforts. These may include:

- Advertising in ezines, online forums, websites and other sources

- Participation as a member in online business and marketing forums

- Participation in Social Networking sites

With each of these leveraging systems, it may take some effort and time to get them set up and to begin establishing your website presence.

The advantage to any or all of these systems is that once set up, they will produce results for you with minimal effort and will continue to do so for extended periods of time.

Link Partners are website owners or webmasters with whom you exchange your website link. You will place a link to their site somewhere on your website, and they will place your link somewhere on their site.

Links can be in text ad form or banner form. Links might be included in an article, a site review or a blog post. Or they might be listed in a business services directory. The style or nature of the link exchange should be agreed upon before the links are posted to prevent any misunderstandings or disappointments.

Link Partners may be easy to find, but the real essence of an effective Link Partner strategy is exchanging links with quality websites. That is, sites with a respectable PageRank and who are already attracting the same kind of visitors that you are targeting for your online business.

There are many good web tools available that can be used to check the PageRank of a website. You can do an Internet search for page rank tools.

To find quality sites and to encourage them to want to support your Link Partner strategy, here are some recommended steps:

1) When surfing the Internet, watch for and bookmark sites that you believe are suitable for your purpose. You could also do Internet searches for your keywords, then check out the sites that rate the highest in the search engine results.

2) Once you identify a suitable Link Partner candidate, write a complimentary review for the site and post the review on your website or blog page.

3) Contact the webmaster or owner of the reviewed site, advise them of the review and give them permission to publish the review on their site along with a link pointing back to your site as the review source. As an alternative to publishing the review on their site, they can simply include a link that points to the review on your site.

You can apply this Link Partner strategy to any number of partners you choose, keeping in mind that the more link partners you have, the more effectively you will be able to leverage your efforts and expand your reach.

Productivity is the name of the game. Increased sales are the goal. An effective Link Partner strategy can be the ideal means to achieve the desired end.

You have been taking the steps to set up a new blog. In the process you have been faced with and continue to be faced with many decisions. Which design should you use? What plug-ins should you add? How do you monetize your blog?

When considering how to make money with your blog, the question always comes up about whether or not to place AdSense ads on your site. Let’s go over the plusses and minuses of mixing ads with the content of your site.

+Plus+

An easy way to monetize your blog, especially if you are a beginner blogger, is to place AdSense ads on it. You decide on the format, size, and color and AdSense walks you through the whole thing. Look around at other blogs to get ideas of what you like. Keep in mind, AdSense has restrictions as to the number of ads you can add, but you don’t want to overdo it anyway.

Ads are passive income. You make money if people click on them (PPC). You just stick them up there and let them do their job. You don’t presell or tell people to click on them. Experiment on placement, type, color, etc. and track which works best.

It’s true that blogs are a creative outlet, but if you’re not doing anything else to make money with your blog, why not use AdSense? The money you make may not replace your income, but it’s still money coming in.

-Minus-

Placing ads on your site may feel like a cop-out if you want your blog to remain a pure artistic creation. Your readers may not like it if you suddenly start throwing up ads. If your blog is already going strong before you start using AdSense, then make the ads small, unobtrusive, and few to start with.

AdSense may not make you much money. It depends on the amount of traffic coming your way and the relevancy of the ads. Sometimes there is a better use for that spot the ads are on, especially if that spot is above the fold.

When you put ads on your site you are asking people to click away. This is not a good idea on every site. For example, if you have a one page sales page where you are selling your product, you don’t want people to click away, you want them to buy now.

It might be a big decision whether to put AdSense ads on your blog, but it’s easier to put them on in the beginning and take them off later than to add them after the fact. Either way, though, your decision can be changed. Just remember your blog content should always be your main concern.

For those learning how to start a blog one of the areas that needs to be considered is marketing your blog. Social media marketing is a way to promote your business on the internet via social networking. This has grown to encompass a very large number of websites and methods.

The savvy internet marketer is learning how to use this powerful marketing method to grow their business and make valuable contacts for the future.

Of course this also means making more money if you do it right. Let’s take a look at 4 ways to use social media marketing to make money online.

1. Blogging is a very strong way to combine various forms of social media marketing all in one place. If you do not have a blog you are losing ground to your competitors who do.

2. Social bookmark your blog posts to create traffic from social directories and as search engine bait for search engine traffic.

Be sure and use a quality blogging platform such as WordPress. They offer a terrific plug-in that makes social bookmarking a blog post very simple.

Social bookmarking gives you a way to get backlinks to your blog very quickly. You should be bookmarking to social directories such as Technorati, Digg, Stumbleupon, and Propeller.

Also go get a Twitter account and learn how to make friends and use it to drive traffic to your blog. This is fast becoming one of the top social sites online.

3. Video such as You Tube is becoming a favorite way for bloggers to add some excitement to their blogs, but it is also much more than that.

For example many affiliate marketing programs now offer videos embedded with your affiliate i.d. that you can use to pre-sell a visitor before sending them to your affiliate website.

Many bloggers are also easily creating videos and putting them online on their blog. This is a very powerful form of social media that is giving your visitor what they want. Many people are a product of the TV generation and like to learn by watching as opposed to reading.

4. Discussion forums are a great place to make friends and sell products if you do it right. They can also be an excellent place to create joint ventures and millions of dollars are sold online now because of these.

There is much more we could say about social media including social networking in places such as FaceBook, My Space, and many others. The bottom line is making money online via social media all comes down to finding a way you enjoy and then mastering how to use it to your business and personal advantage.

Making email opt-in pages more effective is most important yet all too often overlooked and forgotten task of a company’s marketing agent whose job is to increase sales through email contacts. Design and presentation of the opt-in pages determines the quality of email lists and the rate of company growth in addition to meeting or raising subscriber’s expectations. All of these in turn lend a helping hand to the desired email performance.

The first and foremost step toward maximizing the opt-in pages is to entice and persuade recipients of the emails to complete and submit them. The second step is the task of designing the opt-in page.

Drawing visitors into the company’s website is an important goal but once there, visitors should be persuaded to sign up by going to the opt-in page. The path to that page, therefore, must attract attention to itself by being clearly and attractively visible and links to the opt-in page should appear on the Home page as well as on all the other pages on the company’s website.

The website should offer an easy and friendly environment to its visitors by displaying promotional boxes as side bars, plainly announcing the existence of its e-newsletter, links to navigation areas should be legible and apparent and the language used on the website must be known and understood by the general public and, of course, the average visitor.

Assuming that there is enough space for it, promoting the most recent e-newsletter along with its link on the company’s website Home page is a good idea. An effectively functional website contains a “Knowledge and Resource Center” where articles and back issues of e-newsletters are kept in chronological order for visitors to browse through at will. The link to the opt-in page should be included here as well.

Since the sole purpose of the opt-in page is to convert as many readers as it can into signed up subscribers, the design, structure and layout of the opt-in page should be similar to the landing page and it should radiate confidence, value and reliability. Links to sample e-newsletters should be included so that the interested readers will get an idea what they are signing up for. A small screenshot displaying the e-newsletter is not a must but it can most certainly help. A list of positive testimonials from other subscribers of the e-newsletter in a pull-down format could prove to be a beneficial selling point.

There is no such thing as a free lunch nowadays. Thus it is important to remember that when readers finally decide to subscribe and relinquish their well-guarded email addresses, they expect something of at least equal value in exchange. This is the key reason for displaying images, providing samples and reader testimonials of the e-newsletter right on the opt-in page. “Email only special deals” are nice added bonuses that will be appreciated by subscribers and goes a long way toward promoting the company and its products. Such “email only” offers can also increase the number of subscribers which in turn will increase sales.

A brief statement or disclaimer must be visibly displayed near the “Submit” or “Send” button along with a link to the company’s detailed privacy policy that will fully explain, among other important points, the e-newsletter frequency, format and content. In addition, a confirming and welcoming email must be issued as soon as an opt-in page is submitted.

In designing and structuring the opt-in page, it is crucially important that the form does not require too much personal information, yet it is equally important that it asks for as much information as is needed for the company’s present as well as future marketing and sales strategies. It is advisable to distinguish between mandatory information and optional information and mark those distinctions beside every field by using different colors, asterisk or actually spelling it out. A programmed script should be included within the opt-in page to check for syntax errors. Furthermore, to reduce possibilities of making typing errors while entering the email address, two consecutive but separate fields should be provided. The minimum required fields should include first name, last name, email address (twice) and format preference, while the optional fields could ask for secondary email addresses (also entered in two consecutive but separate fields) and various demographic details.

Many people dream of working from home. Operating your own business from home can be a dream come true or a nightmare, not only do you have the full benefits you also have total accountability. You alone are responsible for the success or failure of your business. There are many and varied benefits, some quite unexpected, which go along with the many challenges.

Some challenges include the following:-
Sorting out any legal and insurance issues.
Lack of company – working alone does not suit everyone. Many people enjoy day to day “water-cooler” banter which occurs in a work environment.
Lack of skills – there are many aspects to working from home, and you may find you are not expert in all areas. The learning curve can be quite steep.
Lack of support – many work environments offer working in teams as a benefit – teamwork provides an opportunity to share ideas and get feedback. Teams also help with problem solving.
Interruptions – some people may regard your time as less valuable when you work from home and feel they can bother you at any time.
Lack of guaranteed income – the knowledge that you no longer have the regular income a job can provide can be quite daunting. One solution is to commence your home business on a part time basis while still employed and build it up.
Family pressures – small children will naturally enjoy your presence and may hinder your work activities. Set boundaries and choose a work schedule to suit your family’s needs.
Time management – determine your work schedule. Remember that you cannot be “at work” 24 hours a day.
Distractions – phone calls and visitors can be very distracting. Ask your friends and family to respect your core work times.
Lack of understanding – many people, particularly, those who grew up in a time where people had a “job for life”, don’t understand the “work from home” concept. It requires a paradigm shift your extended family may not be capable of making straight away. Don’t expect unreserved support from your mother-in-law!

There are many benefits to working from home, both to you personally and the planet.

Back in the old days if you wanted to put up a website for free you would go to one of the free hosts, sign up, use their page designer, add in some cheesy graphics, and you’d have a site. You could also, sometimes, design the site on your own computer (using html) and upload the files to the host.

Your domain name would be something like FreeHosting.com/members/users/YourName and it was an Ok way to go. They would place their ads on your site and you had limited bandwidth and resources, but it was free.

Things are different today. While you still aren’t going to get your domain name for free, and decent hosting costs a few bucks a month, there are some good solutions available, all of which are far superior to what was available in the “old days.”

Note: You won’t want to have your business site on a free system. For that you will want to get a domain name and you will get far more control if you pay some money. Short of that you can have a pretty nice blog or personal or hobby site with these systems and you can make some decent money, if that’s your goal.

Blogger.com and WordPress.com are two solid choices for building your own blog. They’re both pretty heavy duty systems and both support sites getting a lot of traffic. Both have enough customization features available that you can make your blog your way and it will look pretty darn good.

Blogger puts a bar on top of your site and WordPress adds a link at the bottom, but everything else is your own. All the adds, content, snippy remarks, etc., are all yours. Blogs are hot these days, the search engines love them, and this is a good way to go to build your own site. No html knowledge is needed.

Weebly.com is a free host, but all they do is put a link on the bottom of your pages, like this: “Create a free website with Weebly.” They have a decent site builder and their system will allow you to make either a traditional “static” site or a blog. It helps to know HTML for Weebly type sites, but it’s not essential.

Squidoo.com is a very cool system. Each page is called a “lens” and each lens consists of a number of modules. Squidoo has dozens of modules allowing you to add cute bits, duels, polls, Amazon and Ebay links, and more. You don’t need to know any HTML here, either, but it helps in spots.

Hubpages.com is very similar to Squidoo in that you can build pages from the various modules available, including Amazon and Ebay stuff.

Both HubPages and Squidoo have a revenue share model, meaning that if you put up Amazon adds on your page then you and the site split the revenue. You can also add your own affiliate links to either.

Squidoo is more friendly to marketers and HubPages is more community oriented, but Squidoo has lots of community stuff and HubPages attracts plenty of marketers. I’ve seen lots more commenting (with interesting comments) and discussion on HubPages than Squidoo, but Squidoo has that stuff, too.

If all you really want is a “Face Page” then consider just going with a Facebook.com (or similar) profile. Zero cost, you can post your stuff, and there are lots of features to build a network or community.

Free hosting on sites such as Geocites.com or Tripod.com is not something I recommend. There are too many restrictions on what you can do and too many ads that aren’t your own. In my opinion all the other solutions mentioned above are better.

These days you can do a lot with a free site. You can have a newsy blog, for free, and constantly update your fans with your insights. If you’re an expert in an area (or want to be one) then put up a Squidoo lens or a HubPage “hub” and let the world know about it. Either way, if you put some work into it then you may be pleasantly surprised at the results.

There are numerous training materials available for learning internet marketing. These include guides for such topics as pay per click marketing, affiliate marketing and article marketing.

Traditionally, this information has been provided in pdf format and sold as e-books. Sometimes they are supplemented with audio files. Today, an increasing number of marketing educators are adding video files as well.

The reason for this is that the software available currently makes it very easy to add this format. In its simplest form all you need is a free version of screen recording software and a microphone to do a voice-over. If your computer has an in-built video camera then you can include that as well. For basic editing a free program such as Windows Movie Maker allows you to trim off unwanted material and add interesting transitions.

Nevertheless, a lot of the videos created today are done with commercial software, such as Camtasia, for their ease of use and the extra features they contain. For the even more creative there are programs which allow you to put yourself in a virtual set using a green screen background.

Video adds a useful dimension because many people are visual learners. If students can see how a process works they are much more likely to remember it and be able to put it into practice themselves.

The main disadvantage used to be portability. You can take a printed copy of an e-book with you and read it in many situations where you don’t have access to a computer such as travelling on a bus. Similarly, audio files can be listened to while travelling in a car or copied to an mp3 player and used in many situations. For example, it is ideal to listen to some expert marketing advice while working out at the gym.

In the past, you tended to be tied to your computer if you wanted to watch video files. The most common format for these files is flv (Flash Video). Fortunately, there are freely available conversion programs which can convert these to formats which can be used with an mp4 player. The biggest disadvantage with this is that it can take quite some time for the conversion process, particularly if you have a large number of files to convert.

However, the latest gadget available cheaply on ebay is the so-called “mp5″ player. The main advantage with these is that they play a range of formats without conversion. Some of these can even play flv files directly.

The reality of m-learning (mobile learning) which has the promise of allowing you to learn not only anytime, but anyplace has begun.

Affiliate marketers are always looking for ideas on how to get free traffic sources. They know how valuable this can be but also understand is not a quick response process. They know that to turn a quick profit they have to go to PPC (Pay Per Click) traffic.

At the same time, they shy away from it as the costs involved could represent a big expenditure on their businesses. PPC traffic costs for known keywords are not cheap any more and so most people tend to lose money on it.

Is there a way to eliminate monetary risks as much as possible with PPC traffic?

There are three key ways to accomplish this. If you stick to these core principles you will be able to create campaign after campaign, expanding your wealth accordingly.

1. Use desperate keywords
Do not pick generic information keywords. Keywords like “free information on (keyword)” , “No cost (keyword)”, do not guarantee a purchase but a gathering information search activity.

Instead, go for words like “comparison”, “buy”, “review”, etc. Also, use model numbers, book names and name of authors to get the best results.

These are the usual keywords people type in when they are ready or close to the purchasing cycle so you should concentrate on them for a better return on your PPC investment.

2. Testing and tracking for best results
Once you know where your money is being spent on advertising, you will be able to make changes that will greatly contribute to better returns of your money. Which clicks turned into sales and which ads get the most clicks and sales are only some of the methods used to gain control of your PPC campaigns.

If you do not have enough information on it, you will be running your PPC advertising department blind. You will also be paying for clicks which do not produce any sales.

Interested people that click into converted sales is what PPC is all about. And that is where the money is.

3. Spy you successful competitors
This is the best way to cover yourself against high costs and risks on your online advertising.

How often are they running their ads? What message are they using on their ads? Are they promoting other affiliate products?

These are some of the factors to look for when spying on your competitors. They are already spending their money so get some advanced knowledge by spying on them on a proper way.

Once you have those three points covered, you should be able to get ahead on the PPC business game and you will seriously minimize the costs and risks of online advertising.

Do not forget to duplicate your efforts on additional campaigns once you have a winner. That is the right way of doing PPC advertising.
